.Congratulations to the Newport News (VA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated 2022 Scholarship Award recipient, Dakota Brown.

Dakota will graduate from Woodside High School with a 3.42 GPA and is ranked 121 out of 380 in her class. Dakota has consistently been on Woodside’s A/B Honor Roll and has received a Woodside Star Award. Upon graduation, Dakota will be attending Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) and pursue her career goal to become an Advanced Registered Certified Nurse.

As a student at Woodside High School, Dakota has been an active member in our school’s dance magnet program. She has utilized her time volunteering as a teacher assistant and working with the Youth Volunteer Corps. Academically, Dakota has always participated in enrichment programs over the summer to quench her thirst for knowledge. These programs were through colleges such as Coppin State University, Howard University’s School of Business, Hampton University, and the University of Illinois, and helped to not only add to Dakota’s knowledge, but also assist her in time management and organization. She participated in STEM projects and learned different coding programs.
